Backåkra
Dag Hammarskjöld, UN Secretary-General and Nobel Laureate, dreamed of settling in Österlen. He bought Backåkra in 1957, a farm surrounded by nature, to live there after his time at the UN. Today, Backåkra is a museum that tells the story of his life, visions, and displays parts of his art collection. Adjacent to the farm is the Meditation Place, a stone circle designed for reflection and tranquility. Backåkra Nature Reserve offers expansive views of the sea and fantastic hiking opportunities along the Skåneleden.
Ystad Jazz Festival Sweden
Jazz tones and lively concerts fill the historic surroundings of Ystad during the Ystad Jazz Festival, which takes place over three days every summer. The festival brings together international stars and local talents, offering an exciting mix of styles and influences. Visitors have the chance to enjoy everything from traditional jazz to modern interpretations, and the unique atmosphere makes it a celebration for the whole family.
Guided ride on a vintage fire truck
Every summer, you can hop aboard vintage fire trucks from the 1930s for an exciting journey through Ystad's historic streets. During the tour, you’ll hear stories about the 13th-century monastery and church, as well as discover the over three hundred half-timbered houses that adorn the city from the 1500s.
For those interested in Wallander's history, a guided ride in Wallander's footsteps is available. You’ll visit locations featured in both the books and films, experiencing the atmosphere that has made Ystad famous in the crime genre.
